The Vogelstrausskluft offers a variety of interesting, unique possibilities to explore the
desert, the Fish River Canyon and Namibias south. E.g. the possibility to descend down into the
Canyon rather easily, which is only possible in one other place – the nature reserve at Ai-Ais – where
a permit is required.

Nature- & Gamedrives Daily in the morning and evening hours we offer guided Gamedrives over the Plateau to the top of the Canyon Rim. Kudu, Oryx, Springboks, Ostriches and various other animals and plants can be spotted most of the times – and with luck even Shakals or Rooikat (Caracals). Arriving at the view point you will experience a spectacular 360° view. On most days you will see more than 250km: Over the breathtaking Fish River Canyon to the Klein Karasberge on the one side – over the Plateau up to the mountain range that marks the border to the Namib Desert on the other.

Additional 4x4-tours show you historic places and impressing views.

Scenic Flights over Fish River Canyon View the world's second largest Canyon form a breathtaking perspektive: Scenic flights over the whole course of the Canyon down to its deepest point in the nature reserve are a unique experience. The Vogelstrausskluft is equipped with a small airfield, so you can start the flight right from the lodge – comfortably and without a long drive to an airport.
Unfortunately no scenic flights can be offered at the moment due to

Guided Quad Bike-Tours For all who want to experience the desert even closer and in an active way. On marked tracks you have the possibility to reach places that are in other ways hard to access or reserved for our ranger staff. Guided Hikes Desert life happens in small scales and therefore you have to look closer. Before and after the big heat of the day, when life awakens and the light paints the most beautiful colours, we therefore offer guided hikes into the vicinity of the Lodge, into the Old Valley or the edge of the Plateau.

Destinations in the Vicinity Due to its favourable and central location the Vogelstrausskluft suits perfectly as a vantage point to explore the remarkable south of Namibia: Lüderitz, the ghost town Kolmannskoppe, Aus with its desert horses, Keetmanshoop, the Kokerboom forest, Giants Playground, Naute Dam, the volcano Brukkaros and many other sites are easily within reach in a single day excursion. And after an exciting day you can retire to the comfortable and refreshing silence of the desert.
